My Rattery Breeding Schedule for 2010

(Note: I'm using frames for my web pages. The top frame that displays my logo can be moved upward out of the way to allow for more viewing area. Just move your mouse to the edge of the frame and when you see it turn into two arrows just click and drag the frame up and out of the way. :>)

Note: Mother Nature always has the final say on my breeding plans. I appreciate everyone's understanding that sometimes things are just out of my hands with supply and demand. Also, breeding pairs are subject to change, sometimes I add pairs or delete pairs to my discretion based on their health or my time constraints.

My Thoughts for 2010

I have my own unique goals for my breeding attempts that usually have to do with enhanced health and conformation, but I'm not breeding solely for myself like most ratteries are.

I'm breeding to provide the general public with a "service." I'm trying to make available to anyone within driving distance, healthy, friendly and unique pet rats so they will have other options to acquiring this unique pet besides Petsmart or rescuing them from snake food, feeder bins.

Rats for sale in those environments have not been breed to be healthy and not properly socialized. This gives pet rats a bad name. When bred to be healthy and properly socialized, pet rats, in my opinion are the best small pet on planet earth and are right up there with having a pet dog!

It's very important if you are interested in getting ratties from me to write me and let me know. I will cancel breeding plans if I don't have a reservation list to fill them. And I may add more of a certain color or marking if people show an interest in them.

Important note: Also, please be serious about your reservation request of a pet rat as lately I've had several people reserve then not follow through with my request for information or other things that pertain to moving the transaction to completion. This is simply not fair for all the other people waiting. So be thoughtful to others that might be interested and make sure you are committed to actually acquiring your pet rat once reserving it.

Another important note: As much as I'd like to take "special orders" for pet rats I'm afraid this is not Burger King, or have it your way. :>) As much as I'd love to please everyone I just can't. I pair together ratties and I list the probability of coat types, ear types, colors and markings. I'm not offering a "buffet" selection, so please look over the kinds of rats I'm working with and what they will produce as I just can't breed a litter hoping to get a pink eyed white or a rex rat. You stand a better chance of getting a quality, healthy, pet rat if you are open minded to both appearance or gender. Thanks.

02/04/10 02/27/10 Update: 03/25/10 All the babies are doing good and I've removed the boys by themselves and let the girls remain with mom. My parents have been visiting me and I also had computer problems so I'm very behind on picture taking. I apologize for this and hope to have everyone's individual pictures taken shortly. Thank you so much for your patience and understanding regarding these delays.

Update: 03/11/10 I've given four of Candy's babies to Catch to raise. This seems to be working out very well.

Update: 03/08/10 I will be taking the babies first pictures on Thursday 03/11/10. They will be posted in the evening. I'm waiting for their fur to fully come in so the markings can be seen better. I still have one opening (two males available) from this litter. All the females are spoken for and when the pictures are posted I will contact each one on my list in the order in which you emailed me.

Please respond promptly with your picks so I can go on down the line without holding anyone else up. I know several of you are very anxious and excited about seeing the babies and picking out your precious little ones...so patience is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Update: 03/02/10 Candy has six girls and eight boys. So far Mama is feeding them well and they are all doing great.

Update: 02/27/10 7:00pm, Candy had fourteen babies. Mama and babies are doing great!

Update: 02/27/10 10:54am, there are ten and counting!

Update: 02/27/10 I woke up this morning to the joyous sound of little squeakers! My first little ratlets of 2010! Candy is having her babies as we speak. She started at about 9:45am and as 10:30 has had four.

Update: 02/25/10 Candy is very preggers and will have them anyday now. She really liked Disquise and I found her grooming him the other day and he was in seventh heaven loving all her dotting attention. When I see that kind of rattie love I almost hate to separating them as they were truly a family unit. But alas she needs her privacy for giving birth, so I've removed him from her area. If their babies turn out really nice maybe I'll allow them to be together again later on this year. I think once she can't be bred anymore I'll let them spend the rest of their lives together, because they really seem to love each other. (When pairing up ratties that doesn't frequently happen...rattie love...)

Update: 02/19/10 Candy is preggers! Disguise and Candy make a darling couple! These babies should be cute beyond words!

Expecting black and white with unique facial markings. Other colors that are possible are: Russian dove, Russian blue, American blue, BEW. All with dumbo ears.

Purpose of the breeding is to introduce LLR lines into my own and work with it a while to determine, health, temperament and confirmation.

Both of these ratties are sweet and laid back so I'm hoping they pass these traits down to their offspring. Candy is on the small size, so I'm introducing her into a line with good sized ratties in it.

All of these babies have now gone to their forever homes!

02/04/10 02/28/10 Update: 03/25/10 There appears to be a couple dwarfs in this litter and what is appearing to be a hairless or semi-hairless/double rex. She is a cute little bugger, lol and totally unexpected. As soon as I know more regarding this I'll contact the people who have reserved these babies to see if they want to swap or cancel or pick from upcoming litters about to be born this weekend.

I'm delaying taking pictures and making things official with this litter because of these unexpected developments but hope to have everyone squared away satisfactory shortly. Thank you for your patience regarding this.

Update: 03/11/10 I've given Catch four of Candy's babies to help her out. Catch's babies were getting so much food they were becoming obese! Big chunkers! Even though there are 12 feeding stations and they could all feed at once. Catch has them broken into two groups of five each. I guess she wants only so many at the table at once,lol...Very interesting...

Update: 03/08/10 Because there are rexes in this litter and the possibility of dwarfs I'm waiting until Friday 03/12/10 to take their pictures. Rex rats fur takes longer to come in than standard fur does and you can't really determine dwarfs until they open their eyes. So even after posting pictures I might not know for sure if any are dwarfs or not.

Thanks for your patience regarding me contacting you to make your pick of ratties from this litter. As the breeder I always get first pick of the litter and I have to make sure the ones I select are the best breeding prospects.

Update: 03/02/10 Catch has five girls and one boy. Mama and babies are doing good. There are a couple with dumbo ears, a couple rexes and it's still too soon to tell for sure if there are any dwarfs.

Update: 02/28/10 Catch had six little eppers waiting for me this morning when I got up. It will be a couple weeks before I'll know if any of them are dwarfs or not. When I can see their markings so I can tell them apart I may give Catch four of Candy's babies to raise to make things easier on Candy. This will give them each ten babies to raise and there are 12 feeding stations.

Update: 02/25/10 Catch is very preggers and right on schedule for her due date! Roady has been removed from her area and I've supplied her with fabric scraps to built a soft cushy nest with.

Update: 02/19/10 Not sure yet whether Roady was successful of Catch's first heat cycle. I haven't seen her come back into heat again and she is allowing him to live with her without attacking him, so I'm assuming she's preggers. I'll keep you posted!

Update: 02/04/10 They are in together again.

This is a special breeding. Catchoo is a dwarf carrier and possibly a Harley coat carrier too. I am pairing a dwarf male who carries Harley with her.

Expecting beige, black and white, burmese, Russian blue agouti, and a rainbow of other colors too as there are many dilutes in Catchoo's lineage.

Marked ratties in hooded, bareback and capped are expected. Some may have dumbo ears, but the major will have standard ears. Some dwarfs are possible.

03/04/10 03/26/10 Update: 04/01/10 Michief still has all thirteen babies. There are eight girls and five boys. I will be surrogating two over to Glory to lessen the load on her.

Update: 03/28/10 Correction, there appears to be thirteen babies!

Update: 03/26/10 Michief has a full house! She had 12 babies today! Mama and babies are doing great. Looks like Daisy is about to have hers too!

Update: 03/25/10 Michief is right on target with her pregnancy and should have them at the estimated time.

Update: 03/04/10 They are in together.

Expecting masked ratties, BEW's, and Mismarked Dalmatians, all in black and white. All with dumbo ears.

Purpose for this breeding is try and get more ratties that have Dalmatian spots on them though I've pretty much given up on getting a true Dalmatian, variegated is about as close as I'm going to get to spotted ratties I do believe, lol.

03/04/10 03/27/10 Update: 04/13/10 I'm taking pictures of the baby today and two babies are not there. Two boys are gone. Wow, how sad. I wonder why Daisy decided she didn't want them? I've never had a Mother wait this long to remove them, even after I surrogated five to Sparkles. I thought for sure ten would be a good number for her to handle. I asked my husband if he could have possibly thrown them out when he changed their bedding last week and he assured me he didn't.

What makes it doubly hard for me is I think both had blazes on their face and one was an American blue. I was so excited about that. I'm so sadden...

Update: 04/01/10 Daisy has seven girls and eight boys. I've given Sparkles five of her babies to help her out, now they both have ten.

Update: 03/27/10 Daisy has 15 BABIES! Holly cow! So far mama and babies are doing fine. I hope they all make it. I hope one of the other Mother's has less than 12 so I can surrogate some of them to her.

Update: 03/25/10 Daisy IS preggers and her due date is on target. :>) I know that will make a whole lot of people happy! Let's hope she has a big litter!

Update: 03/04/10 They are in together, Daisy is in heat, kind of. One minute she's fighting him off the next she's allowing him. Very strange indeed...I'm not sure accuracy is Express's goal and he might be living up to that name, lol. :>() Awwww it's ok Express you've got about three weeks to get it figured out!

Expecting all Russian blues. All with dumbo ears.

The purpose of the breeding is to continue working to purify this color removing all dinginess from the fur. The conformation and health of this lineage is excellent and both of these ratties are sweet and laid back so I'm hoping they pass these traits down to their offspring.

03/04/10 03/28/10 Update: 04/01/10 Sparkles has two boys and three girls. I've given her five of Daisy's babies to raise to help her out.

Update: 03/28/10 Sparkles took me by surprise and has had her babies. I didn't think she was ready yet because she wasn't very big. She wasn't very big because she only had five babies. This is actually a good thing as now I can give her some of Daisy's babies and maybe one of Michief's too.

Update: 03/25/10 Sparkles has a baby bump but is not as far along as Daisy. I'm revising her due date by a week.

Update: 03/04/10 Ok while Express is busy trying to figure out Daisy's strange behavior of like you, hate you...Sparkles is perched on top of the running wheel looking down at them, out of harms way. She doesn't want any part of their nonsense, lol.

03/04/10 03/29/10 Update: 04/01/10 Glory had three boys and four girls. I've given two of Michief's babies for her to raise.

Update: 03/30/10 Well I got another surprise. Glory had her babies on the 29th. I thought she was behind a week but it was just a small litter. She had seven little squeakers. As soon as I can see the markings on Daisy's babies I'll give the other Mom's with less babies some of hers to lessen the burden. This is one of the reasons I breed multiple litters at a time so I have other Mothers' to rely on should something unexpected happen.

A few years back I had a situation where the Mom rejected her babies and would not nurse them if I hadn't had another nursing Mother to turn to for help all those babies would have died. I take precautions now and have several Mothers on which to depend.

Update: 03/25/10 Glory is preggers but looks to be a week behind Michief. Unless it's just going to be a small litter. I'm revising her due date by a week.

Update: 03/04/10 They are in together. Nessy is going to be a busy guy, lol.

Expecting all masked ratties, all in black and white. All with dumbo ears.

Purpose for this breeding is to perfect the masked marking. These two ratties demonstrate the two best masks I've produced so far. Hoping to remove mis-markings from the mask keeping them pure across the face.

07/08/10 07/31/10 Update: 08/17/10 Candy's babies are pop corning around and getting into mischief. I will be taking their indivdual pictures this weekend and will be contacting people who are on my reservation lists.

Aaron, Sarah and Wendy have made it for the boys and Ed and Kristen for the girls.

Update: 08/08/10 All babies are doing well. I had them out in the bonding pouch for an hour today giving mama a break. There are agouti and white and black and whites and a couple look like they are mink or burmese or could turn out beige, unsure yet.

Update: 08/03/10 Candy has thirteen little eppers! There are eight boys and five girls. Mama is a capped rat and Daddy is a hooded rat. Guess what I got from this pairing? Everyone of the babies are the marking known as bareback! Some have darling headspots. Most look like they will be black and white, though two may be Russian blue or American blue. I'll be keeping those as I'm trying to get marked dwarfs in different shades.

Update: 07/31/10 Candy has 12 little eppers! I'm so happy for her. She came right off her nest to see me so I could count them. I gave her a chunk of fresh plum and a chunk of banana. They all had full milk bellies.

Update: 07/29/10 Candy is about to brust! Any day now!

Update: 07/19/10 Candy is showing the signs of a baby bump!

Expecting marked rats in black and agouti. Hooded, capped, bareback, and Berkshire are possible. Other markings and colors may be a "surprise."

The purpose of this breeding is to try and get marked dwarfs in a variety of colors, so I'm introducing a masked to a hooded as a start to get masked and Dalmatians and other cute marked dwarfs. This litter will all have dumbo ears and be standard size but will carry dwarf.

07/08/10 07/31/10 Update: 08/08/10 Clemmie's two babies are doing great!

Update: 08/02/10 Clemmie's little breach girl has pulled through! She will be very special to me, because had I not been in the right place at the right time she wouldn't have made it! I will cuddle and love the heck out of her, but it's almost like Clemmie knows she lost a couple and is not budging off her nest, just nurturing the heck out of the remaining two.

Update: 07/31/10 Clemintine had a fourth baby. It was breach. luckily I noticed her having another one and I pulled it out and got it breathing but it's bleeding internally. I tried putting pressure on the umbilical cord to stop the bleeding. I've put her in with her Mother but It's doubtful I got the bleeding to stop. I'm glad I noticed she had a breach baby as if I had not helped her I would have lost her too. When this type of thing happens breeding stinks. This has not been a good day for me.

Update: 07/31/10 Clemintine had three little babies today. Two boys and a girl, unfortunately she stepped on two of them collapsing their lungs. I was too late to help the one and tried mouth to mouth on the other helping it live a little bit longer but it just wasn't strong enough to keep breathing on it's own.

This is one of the problems I've had with dwarfs in the past. I don't know whey they can't tell they are stepping on their babies. It's so sad.

I'm sorry to those hoping to get a baby from this pairing, but I will be keeping the last remaining boy. I have to keep enough babies to keep my lines going for future breedings and this doesn't leave much available for people hoping for a darling pet.

I will put her in for a second litter at the end of the year. Maybe that litter will have a more successful outcome. Thank you for your patience if you are on a waiting list for dwarfs. Eventually you should be able to get one I just don't know how long it will take. I have no control over litter size or if they survive or not.

Update: 07/29/10 Clemintine is preggers! I've removed her from Braveheart and she is off in her birthing unit now.

Expecting all dwarfs and dwarf litters are very small, four is the average. It takes a lot of dwarf pairings to get a normal standard litter size.

Expecting Wheaten Burmese hooded, possibly Siamese and BES.

The purpose of this breeding is to continue getting dwarf of breeding age to carry on my dwarf lines and to work at getting marked dwarfs in various colors.

07/08/10 08/02/10 Update: 08/17/10 Sparrow's four babies are doing great. It appears two are going to be double rexes! It also appears that I will have two male dwarfs available as most of my reservations were for females. If you are interested in these two remaining males please let me know asap.

Update:08/14/10 Tragedy struck again yesterday. I took all the babies and mama's out to the property so I'd have more time to spend with them. I don't know whether the bumpy road to get back there threw Sparrow off balance or what but she stepped on one of her babies killing it! I was devastated as it's little front teeth were just coming in and it was about to open it's eyes. It was as cute as it could be, an agouti hooded dumbo. Why do I do this? Have my heart broken over and over again?

Update: 08/08/10 There are only five babies now! I've looked high and low for the sixth one thinking maybe it was buried beneath the aspen bedding. And I'm so bummed because it was the only female from the litter! It's beginning to look as if I'm not going to be able to keep my dwarf lines going. If I don't have breeding age females to continue to work with males aren't going to help me any. Females can really only be successfully breed to about a year of age and all my females are getting there or are past that. Bummed bummed!

Update 08/03/10 I know this post is going to bum some people out. Sparrow has one female and five males. Since my waiting lists are for females I guess they aren't going to get filled with this litter. I will be keeping the only female in order to continue producing dwarfs in the future. Two of the rats are bareback, the others I'm unsure yet.

Update: 08/02/10 Sparrow has six little tiny babies! Mama and babies are doing well!

Update: 07/29/10 Sparrow is preggers! She is by herself in her own space getting ready to give birth any day now.

Expecting all dwarfs. Wheaten Burmese, BES and Siamese possible. Trying to acquire more marked dwarfs so I can eventually work toward getting masked and Dalmatian dwarfs and other unusual facial markings in a smaller size than my standard line.

Update: 08/29/10 They are just opening their eyes! So darling, running around and driving mom batty!

Update: 08/21/10 It looks like half will be Siamese and the other half Burmese, like Mama and Papa! So pretty!

Ok, just did a head count. There are four Siamese girls and one boy. Two burmese boys and four burmese girls. I will be keeping the Siamese boy. Basically from this litter I'll be keeping a girl and boy siamese and girl and boy burmese, so four will be reserved for me.

Update: 08/18/10 Sunrise has eight girls and three boys!

Update: 08/17/10 Sunrise had eleven babies yesterday. Mom and babies are doing great! They are very noisy and give a whole new meaning to the term "squeakers!" They also have very good grips as I'll see Mama walking around dragging babies behind her that won't let go or take no for an answer! LOL

Update: 08/14/10 Sunrise is getting very big and will be having her babies any day now! I'm so excited. This litter will be worth the wait!

Update: 08/08/10 Sunrise is starting to show signs of being pregnant! Keep your fingers crossed as this will be a gorgeous litter if it happens! They are both so pretty and have such good personalities. I can hardly wait!

Update: 07/29/10 It doesn't appear that Sunrise is preggers. I'm not sure why. I've left Gold in with her for another week. I'll keep you posted if I start to see a baby bump.

Sunrise is a nice rattie girl I got from Raffinhouse Rattery and Gold is a big squishy guy I got from Colorado Mountain Meadows Rattery. Update: 09/03/10 Pearls babies are PORKERS! They are the biggest, fattest babies I've every seen! They are the size of four week old babies and they don't even have their eyes open yet! Mama has been feeding them way too much, lol! :>)

Update: 08/27/10 Pearl has one little boy and three girls!

Update: 08/26/10 Pearl has had four little babies. That is just perfect for her. She'll be able to experience motherhood without it overwhelming her, though her disability does not bother her in the least. She is being a great Mom, as I knew she would. I'll check to see how many are males or females probably tomorrow.

Update: 08/17/10 Pearls eye has healed up nicely. She is off her meds and if doing great. It appears she is going to surprise me with a litter! She appears to be preggers! I'm very happy for her. She'll make a great Mom and dispite only the use of one eye is her sweet and kissy self!

PG 14! If you are under 14 do not read this next posting.

Update 08/04/10 I have started Pearl on a ophthalmic eye drop four times daily (prednisolone acetate) to reduce the swelling in the eye. The pupil is gone from her eye, so she will be totally blind, now I'm just trying to get the swelling to do down so the eye returns into the socket. (Sounds pretty gross huh? Welcome to the fun world of breeding...sigh)

I feel so bad for Pearl, but she doesn't seem to be in any pain and I will love her just as much regardless if she has one eye or two.

She has been separated from Catch which is really bumming him out. He really like her a lot! I'm researching a new girl friend for Catch until I determine if Pearl might recover eventually to be strong enough to try to be paired up with him again.

Catch is a really pretty guy and I really wanted to produce some babies to carry on for him.

Update 08/03/10 Wow what a day I've had. Pearl has been bitten in the eye by Catch. I'm sure it's an accident because they get along really well. I'm not sure what happened as I didn't witness it. I just noticed today she is not preggers and her eye is swollen and infected. The infection probably caused her body to absorb the babies. She will be totally blind in this eye, there is no saving it. When I've looked in on her before I didn't see the eye had a problem because she kept looking at me from her good eye. When I noticed she didn't look preggers today I went to pick her up to exam her and that's when I noticed the eye had a problem.

Update: 07/29/10 Pearl is just starting to show a bit of a baby bump. I've left Catch in with her one more week. I think we might be on track for August 7th.

Update: 08/29/10 at 10:42am Treasure is having her babies as I write this. There are eight so far!

Update: 08/26/10 Treasure is showing a slight baby bump. I've removed her from Rockey in hopes the privacy will help relax her.

Update: 08/20/10 Unclear whether she is preggers or not. Not seeing as much of a bump as Dazzle. We'll just have to wait and see.

Update 08/17/10 Treasure is showing a slight baby bump, but it's really too soon to say for sure. I sure hope she is that would be awesome! I have several people eagerly waiting for this litter!

Update: 08/08/10 They are in together!

Expecting Russian blue masked. All with dumbo ears.

Purpose of the breeding is to carrying on working with masked ratties in Russian blue. I'm trying to get masked ratties in several pretty colors, not just black and white even though they stand out the most.

Update: 09/24/10 Star has four girls and three boys. She has two black Berkshire boys and one black Berkshire girl. She has two Russian blue girls and a platinum girl (she will have ruby eyes). There is one Russian blue male.

Update: 09/09/10 She is showing just a slight baby bump she might not have taken the first try.

Update: 08/26/10 Star was in heat upon pairing her with Sky.

Update: 08/17/10 I'm getting ready to pair up Starlight and you should see her now! I will try to get a recent picture of her and post it to her profile page. Genetically she is a merle but she is looking very tori shell. The merle spots have turned to copper or gold making her three distinct colors! She is gorgeous!

Expecting hoping for American blues. All will have dumbo ears.

Purpose of the breeding is to reintroduce American blue into my lines. That beautiful color got lost a while back. It's one of my favorites.

08/26/10 09/18/10 Update: 09/30/10 Spinnie has one Himalayan and three blacked eyed Siamese.

Update: 09/22/10 Spinnie only has four babies left? One of the girls is no longer with us. This selective "keeping" process dwarfs seem to do really bums me out.

Update 09/20/10 Mama and babies are doing good. She has two girls and three boys.

Update: 09/18/10 Spinnie has FIVE itsy bitsy babies! I am happy beyond words! I will check for gender tomorrow. (Please let them be all females!) Giving mama a chance to establish a routine as dwarfs can get side tracked with parenting responsibilities very easily. So much more fun to play than feed kids, lol!

Update: 09/17/10 Spinnie is showing a baby bump!

Update: 09/09/10 No signs of babies on the way

Update: 08/26/10 Kisses and Spinnie are back together again. Wish them luck!

Update: 08/08/10 I will be putting Spinnie back in with Kisses on August 26th. I need to give her body a chance to heal before I try again.

Update 08/04/10 Spinnie dispelled one stillborn baby today. She seems fine. She is her affectionate and kissy self. I don't know if the other two I felt yesterday will come out or be reabsorbed.

Update 08/03/10 Well Spinny is surprising me. She has been spotting and I think she is in labor. I felt three babies. But I'm concerned because she hasn't delivered them yet. I've been massaging her belly and sides and put some vaseline down there to help make their entrance easier. She has stopped spotting now and nothing is happening. I sure hope they aren't stillborn that would be so sad.

Update 07/29/10 Spinster does not appear to be preggers. I'll keep you posted.

Expecting all dwarfs. Expecting all blacked eyed Siamese with dumbo ears. (Average dwarf litter size is 2-4)

Update: 09/20/10 Mikca has a boy and a girl. I've surrogated Mousie's babies to her as Mousie is not lactating.

Update: 09/22/10 Only three babies remain. They are all girls. Must be Mama didn't think she could handle more than that...sigh.

Update: 08/08/10 I will be putting Scoobee back in with Warner Jr. on August 26th. I need to give her body a chance to heal before I try again.

Update: 08/04/10 Scoobee had two stillborn babies and one she stepped on it's nose. It was bruised and bleeding internally but it was still alive and I tried giving it mouth to mouth and applying pressure on the nose to get the bleeding to stop. She lived a few minutes but the bleeding continued into her body cavity and I was helpless to assist her. Man, I'm not having a good week! The lose of these darling babies is devastating to me! She still appears to be in labor and I'm sitting here like a hawk watching her every move to see if I can assist any further babies upon their arrival. Even one live baby today would be a blessing to me after two days of still births or other complications.

Update: 08/03/10 Scoobee has blossomed out the last couple days and is definitely preggers!

Update: 07/29/10 Scoobee does not appear to be preggers. I'll keep you posted.

08/26/10 09/20/10 Update: 09/30/10 All of Mousie's babies are alive and well. I put Mousie in with Angel to keep each other company. I won't be rebreeding them. Mikca who has been surrogating all five of Mousie's babies is now having a hard time keeping up with their needs. They are very tiny. Seven babies is way to many for such a tiny little dwarf to take care of, therefore I took two of Mousie's from Mikca and gave them to Scoobee Boo. I hope she doesn't reject them and continues raising them. That's the risk I have to take. I'm trying to balance the care to keep the Mother's healthy.

Update: 09/24/10 I'll give Mousie a couple weeks to recuperate and then try again. Maybe next time she'll produce milk. I sure hope so as I could really tell she wanted to be a mama.

Update: 09/22/10 Mousie is really depressed. You can see the sadness in her eyes. I tried to tell her her babies were ok. It's got to be so hard on them to give birth and then have them taken away like that. She was being the perfect Mother and sitting on the nest. I thought everything was fine. She was trying to nurse them, but had nothing to give them.

Update: 09/20/10 Mousie is not lactating! The babies are not able to nurse. I've removed them and put them in with Mikca, giving her seven. There are two girls and three boys. If they make it I'll separate them out with other Mothers with less to lighten Mikca's load. Not looking too hopeful at this point. I don't know if Mikca will accept or reject them or if they are strong enough to nurse. :>(

Update: 09/20/10 Mousie has five little squeakers! YEAH!

Update: 09/17/10 Mousie is showing a good size baby bump!

Update: 09/09/10 No signs of babies on the way.

Expecting all agouti, possible Wheaten Burmese, most with standard ears, maybe a dumbo depending on litter size. Being that Mousie is such a small little ratlet I wouldn't think she'd have more than a couple.

Update: 10/05/10 there are three girls and two boys. The RB's I think will have blazes but it's hard to tell right now, not enough fur, lol.

09/09/10 10/03/10 Update 10/13/10 CUTENESS Alert! This pairing is creating some of the most darling facial markings I've yet to see on a pet rat! Just goes to show keeping mismarked ratties that are unique can be a good thing, lol. There are nine girls and five boys, which is good, helps balance out the other litter that hardly had any girls! I'll take the group pictures this weekend. Wait until you see these darling faces!

Update: 10/04/10 Michief had fourteen squeakers! I will probably surrogated four of them to Joy in a couple of days to help her out a bit.

Update: 10/03/10 Michief is getting huge. She's been building a nest. Quite an elaborate one I might add. The mansion of nests I do believe, lol. I'm thinking she'll probably have them later tonight!

Update: 09/24/10 Well another week has gone by and still nothing to report in the baby department. I had a talk with Gabby and asked him if he was on the job or what, LOL? This getting Mothers to take and deliver their babies alive is proving very frustrating for me this year.

11/25/10 12/19/10 Update: I'm naming Joy's one surviving boy, Joy's Miracle. Miracle always looks so lonely with just him and his Mom and no playmates so today I had him out with Love's babies so he could snuggle with them. He is going to be a people rattie as he is already licking stuff off my fingers, very licky and kissy even at three weeks of age. So he is pulling at my heartstrings.

Update: 12/19/10 Joy had five babies during the night, unfortunately only one was born alive. I knew something was wrong last night when she still hadn't given birth. I took her out let her walk around and tried massaging her sides but she squeaked so I knew so was in pain and something had gone wrong. I was very worried she herself might die and was actually relieved to see she had given birth and at least one living baby.

This baby will be very well fed and spoiled. Joy is such a sweet girl and was such a great mom last time I know she'll cherish her one and last remaining baby as she heads into retirement.

Update: 12/16/10 Out of the four mothers I put in for breeding Joy is the only one for sure who is pregnant. She is huge in fact and is going to have them any day, plus probably a good amount of babies too.

Update: 12/08/10 I'm seeing a baby bump! :>)

Update: 11/25/10 They are in together but not much is happening. This will be Joy's second litter. I'm hoping for a bigger litter this time. Expecting all Russian Blue with Blazes in Berkshire, bareback and capped markings, variegated also possible. All will have dumbo ears.

11/25/10 12/30/10 Update: 01/09/11 the babies are gigantic! They are the size of three week olds and are only ten days old! :>)There is a mink/lilac rex female I will be keeping. There is a black self, a couple of Berkshires and an English all in black. All have standard coats but this one female.

Update: 12/31/10 There are three females and two males.

Update: 12/30/10 5:08pm Love just had five little eppers! Yeah! They are good sized babies. I'll check on gender in a couple of days. She never got very big and didn't gain much weight so I wasn't expecting them this soon. I never saw this pair actually breed so it was hard to determine a due date. I'm just glad they are finally here. Unfortunately I think my waiting list is far more than what Mother Nature supplied. The people who contacted me by email first will be notified in a couple of weeks. The remaining will be rescheduled to other upcoming litters. Sorry about that...completely out of my hands.

Update: 12/30/10 Love continues to look preggers and did something I've never seen a female rat do earlier today. She buried her mate! And the amazing thing is he let her, lol! This morning Sparkle was completely covered in bedding in a gigantic mound in the corner. She took every piece of bedding in the unit to bury him with leaving the floor bare where she was sitting. I thought Sparkle had died or something. But he was alive and well. She was just making him "go away." She told him to stay in his corner and he listened to her. (I told you he adores her. :>)He peaked up at me when I investigated but did not leave the mound. That was her way of letting me know it was time to remove him so she could built her own nest, which she has been busy doing for the last half hour. She is now piled up high in the corner like a queen on her throne! :>() I sure hope she takes them full term this time.

Update: 12/28/10 Love is gaining weight again. I'll keep my fingers crossed she can take them full term this time.

Update: 12/23/10 Boy I know this update is really going to bum some people out, but Love only weighed in at 10.7 ounces today so she is losing weight. She must have had a false pregnancy. I have not seen her come into heat. I've never actually witnessed Sparkle breeding with her. But he's very close to her as if he has. He adores her. I'm continuing to pair them up together.

Update: 12/19/10 I weighed Love and she weighs 11.5 ounces. I will weigh her in a couple of days to see if she is gaining weight, but she still does not look preggers.

Update: 12/16/10 I'm just not sure about this pairing. Lovin' kinda of has a bump but isn't as far along as I would have hoped. I've left them in together for another week as Sparkle just adores her.

Update: 12/08/10 I'm seeing a baby bump! :>)

Update: 11/25/10 They are in together. Expecting black variegated, Russian blue and American blue in various markings. Some will have rex coats. All will have dumbo ears.
All of these babies are now reserved

Click here to see the babies first pictures!

Understanding my breeding schedule
Terminology for 2010:

Taking reservations means my waiting list is still open.

Taking reservations for a specific gender means I still have spots on my waiting list for a specific gender.

The reservation list for this pairing is now closed means I have enough people interested in adopting and don't need anymore for this pairing.

All the babies are now reserved - means people have shown an interest in a ratlet and in many cases have paid for them and are waiting for pickup or delivery though they may still be living at the rattery.

All the babies have now gone to their forever homes means the ratlet is no longer living here and lives with it's new parents.

Available means the ratlet has not been spoken for yet and you can contact me to reserve it.

RDPY TBA means the person has reserved the ratlet but has not chosen a name for it yet.

I do limited breeding during the summer months, but when I do have something available you will need to come to my location to pick them up.

I will be doing a delivery down state at my Mom's in February for litters soon to be born. I'll post the exact date as soon as everyone is born.

To Mapquest her approximate location and distance put: 16400 Upton Rd, East Lansing Michigan 48823. I will provide her exact address when final arrangements are made.

I'm requiring a 5 dollar delivery fee be added for each ratlet I transport down state, this is to cover my gas to and from. So if you are receiving a pair of rittens the total would be 40 per pair to deliver them downstate. (The cost is only 30 if you come to my location to pick them up.)

I try to divide the gas costs fairly between all interested parties so I don't burden just one person with the cost of gas. This has worked out very well in the past. :>)

Payment for ratties being transported needs to be prepaid before the delivery date. Most people just use Paypal to make the payment and I can send you an invoice from Paypal making it easier for you to make payment.

Any products or supplies you order can be paid with Paypal also as they allow you to use a charge card. Or products can also be paid for in cash upon scheduled pickup. I can bring these items with me downstate to save on shipping costs, you just need to let me know what you want ahead of time. I can also custom make carrying pouches in your favorite colors. These are a highly recommended purchase and you can read more about them at my store link.

Upon completing arrangements for pickup each person will be scheduled in a time slot one hour a part from each other. This is because I give one on one attention to each and every person, answering questions, showing proper handling and bonding procedures and going over proper care and health topics.

I take this extra time because I want to make sure my fur kids and their new owners will be contented with each other and my little ratlets will continue to thrive in their new environments.

I'm not just doing this to promote rats as pets, I'm doing this to educate the public on proper care and handling of this unique animal too. They are very intelligent creatures and have feelings and emotions much like a two year old human child. They are not like hamsters, gerbils, guinea pigs and rabbits, they are friendly and social, and interact and bond with their owners much like dogs do. They can get EXTREMELY attached to their human friends if given the right environment. I help you learn what that environment is.
