My Rattery Breeding Schedule for 2013

(Note: I'm using frames for my web pages. The top frame that displays my logo can be moved upward out of the way to allow for more viewing area. Just move your mouse to the edge of the frame and when you see it turn into two arrows just click and drag the frame up and out of the way. :>)

Note: Mother Nature always has the final say on my breeding plans. I appreciate everyone's understanding that sometimes things are just out of my hands with supply and demand. Also, breeding pairs are subject to change, sometimes I add pairs or delete pairs to my discretion based on their health or my time constraints.

Please note: I am an older, retired women. I only breed as many litters as I feel I have time for. I normally only breed six months out of the year...that hasn't always been the case...but that is my normal standard of operation. Though for some people it might seem like I have a lot of litters planned I don't have human children, school or a job to contend with and have more time to devote to raising my pets properly than most other breeders do. Please take this into consideration when viewing my Breeding Schedule. I can assure you my pets are properly socialized, sweet, healthy and well tempered. You can always check out my Facebook rattery page for the positive feedback I recieve from my adopters.

My Thoughts for 2013

Starting in 2013 I'm on a quest to make this whole adoption process and running a rattery easier and less time consuming on me. In order to do this I'm streamlining some of my processes.

Starting in 2013 I'm going to start naming all my litters for ease of registering them, and to assure there are no duplicate names. I've had many problems regarding people naming their own pets that has really hindered the adoption process running smoothly. Though my rats will be registered in the national registries with my chosen names you may nickname your rats whatever you wish once you get them home. Just be sure when you write me about your rats to use their registered names so I can look them up.

In 2013 I will no longer be keeping a waiting list for pet rats. This just hasn't been working out as many times too much time passes between having enough available and by the time I work my way down to people on the list I find they don't respond or they found rats somewhere else and didn't let me know.

The new way you go about acquiring rats from me in 2013 is going to be really easy on everyone. I will post updates to my Breeding Schedule page. When babies are born all that information will be posted. How many and of what gender. A group baby picture of males and females will be taken between eight and thirteen days of birth. As soon as their fur has come in enough to see their markings. When those first baby pictures are posted people can start writing me with their interest and will get pre-screened at that time.

Once pre-screened their name will get listed next to the names of babies still available. Those who write the soonest after seeing the pictures will have the greatest selection from what is available. Checking my web site's Breeding Schedule area often, will keep you up todate on what is becoming available so you can make your selections.

At three weeks old I will take individual pictures of each rat available in each litter. If a person sends a name request at this time I will post it if it's not a duplicate name already in the database. If a name is not supplied I will pick my own rather than bug someone about choosing a name as I've had to do in the past.

Starting in 2013 I'm going to require a non-refundable security deposit at time of making your reservations for your pets. I will require half of the total payment be paid.

I had some problems last year with people reserving rats weeks in advance and when it came time to pick them up they back out of the reservation. Meanwhile, I had been holding their rats for them and others were not allowed to have them. This new policy will help me assure the person is really interested in acquiring their pets and has intentions of following through and picking them up.

I reserve the right to add or delete pairings or cancel a reservation if I feel a rat is not healthy enough or friendly enough for adoption. This would probably never happen, but if it did I would refund the security deposit in full.

03/01/13 03/23/13 Update: 03/30/13 It appears Wonder has accepted Splish's little baby boy as her own. He found a food station and was getting a good meal. He had a full milk belly. Glad one of my decisions was a correct one.

Update: 03/29/13 Today when I was handling all of Splish's babies I notice one very small one, a runt. One of her babies, a boy is not thriving. I don't believe he has been able to get to a food station. There are only tweleve stations and there are thirteen of them. She is not rotating them like some mothers do. I gave this one little baby to Wonder in hopes it might find a food station. I'll keep you posted on the outcome.

Update: 03/23/13 Splishy has thirteen little babies. There are seven girls and six boys. Mama and babies are doing great!

I'll take their first pictures in eleven days. Stay tuned!

RDPY Pyrit's Wonder
03/01/13 04/05/13 Update: 04/06/13 I went to check on Pyrit's baby today and found it wandering around outside the nest without a milk belly. She had rejected it. Or possibly didn't have enough milk to offer it. I have put this baby boy in with Ruby's two remaining babies in hopes it is still strong enough to nurse. She is producing a good milk supply. I hope she will accept it and save it's life. So sad.

Update: 04/05/13 Pyrit had one baby.

Update: 03/29/13 I'm not sure Pyrit is going to have a litter or not. I've removed Lil' Wonder out of the den. If she doesn't have babies I will not try again as I need to change my focus to outdoor projects.

Update: 03/23/13 Pyrit isn't as far along in her pregnancy as some of the other pairings. I think it will be at least a week more before she has them.

Update: 03/16/13 Babies are right on target to be due within the expected time frames posted.

Flashy Splashy
03/29/13 04/23/13 Update: 04/28/13 I'm not very happy with Flashy right now. Two days ago I went to check on gender and there were only eight of the ten babies remaining. Then today I went to check on the babies and there are only six remaining. There is one girl and five boys as of this update. I've never had a mama rat continue to eat her babies as a food source after they are this old. I've been giving her all kinds of other stuff to eat, meat, nuts, fruits and veggies trying to discourage this behavior. I have no other Mama rats I can give the babies to so I'm stuck with whatever she decides to do with them.

Update: 04/23/13 Flashy has had her babies. She has ten of them. Will check for gender later. Mama and babies are doing great.

Update: 04/19/13 Flashy continues to get bigger. She is on schedule for the due dates posted.

Update: 04/15/13 I think she is getting rounder and putting on a little weight. So I hope this is good news. I should no more by the end of this week.

Update: 03/29/13 They are in together and she is letting him know that she is not the least bit interested and is VERY vocal about it! My oh my is she not happy with him being in with her, lol.

This is a special breeding I'm doing for a breeder friend of mine in PA. This pairing was planned for this fall but I've moved it up.

Expecting marked rats in several colors, in rex and hairless, all with dumbo ears.

09/15/13 10/09/13 Update: 10/18/13 I'm not sure what has happened but Trixie only has seven babies now. She decided she didn't want one of them. I'm not sure why. There are four boys and three girls remaining. There are two black Berkshires, two mink Berkshires, a mink bareback, one platinum and one champagne. All appear to be rex rats, one standard coat and possibly one double rex. I will be taking pictures shortly.

Update: 10/10/13 Trixie has eight babies. There are five boys and three girls. Mama is feeding them very well, they are getting chunky already, lol!

Update: 10/09/13 Trixie had her babies today. I see at least six of them, but will do an official headcount tomorrow.

09/15/13 10/10/13 Update: 10/18/13 The boy has survived and is doing good. They are all growing like weeds. All three are black hooded. Pictures soon!

Update: 10/10/13 Popcicle had three babies. There is one boy and two girls. I don't believe the boy is going to make it. There appears to be blood pooling around the umbilical cord, or possibly she steped on it. Dwarfs are known to step on their babies by accident. I will check later tonight to see if the bleeding has stopped. She is being a great little Mom. She has them buried along with herself and I had a very hard time getting her to leave the nest to check them over.

Update: 09/18/13 They are in together. They are getting along really well.

09/16/13 10/11/13 Update: 11/03/13 Blessy's girl that was not thriving did not make it. :( The rest of her babies are doing good and growing like weeds! And just like their Mom they are super friendly and into everything! Little mischief makers!

Update: 10/22/13 Blessy has a baby girl that is not thriving. I don't think she is going to make it. It appears the other bigger babies are pushing her out of the way from the food stations. I've repeatedly put her on the top of the group hoping she'll get first choice at a station, but she always seems to be pushed to the bottom of the litter pile. I've even tried keeping some of the biggers ones out of the nest for a while hoping Mom will nurse and she'll get some. But Mom doesn't seem to want to nurse when I try this. She is cute, but unless she can hold on until her eyes open and she can get some solid foods to eat it's not looking hopeful to her. I would think Blessy could tell she is losing weight and would assist her, but I guess they can't determine these things....sigh.

Update: 10/18/13 They all have blazes on their faces. A couple have darling markings as well. Russian blue and black blazed little darlings!

Update: 10/11/13 Blessy had ten babies. I did a quick gender look and it appears six or seven females. I'll double check that in the next couple of days. She is doing good and is being a great mom.

Update: 10/09/13 Blessy is right on schedule to have her babies this Friday.

Update: 09/18/13 Blessy and Blaze have been in together for a couple days now. She didn't like him at first but now when I let her out for free roam time she keeps going back and checking on him, lol. I just hope she doesn't get too attached to him as he will only be in her life for a couple weeks.

Blessy is my "Heart" rat! She is the sweetest little girl on the planet. Kissy, licky, and smart. I'm very exited that her health has remained good and she will be given a chance at motherhood!

Expecting black and Russian blue Berkshires w/blazes. Remote possibility of mink. All with dumbo ears. And I'm sure Mom will pass down her loving personality as well!

******** ******** Done with my breeding program for the year! See you in March of 2014

Understanding my breeding schedule
Terminology for 2013
:

"I am Available" means the ratlet is not reserved by anyone and you may contact me to reserve it.

"All the babies are now reserved" - means people have shown an interest in a ratlet and in many cases have paid for them and are waiting for pickup or delivery though they may still be living at the rattery.

"All the babies have now gone to their forever homes" - means the ratlet is no longer living here and lives with it's new parents.

I will be doing deliveries downstate to the Lansing area on the following dates in 2013:

I'm doing my deliveries from my friends house. Her address is 215 N. Canal St, Lansing MI, 48917 if you want to Mapquest it.

Deliveries have been completed for the year.

I'm requiring a 5 dollar delivery fee be added for each ratlet I transport down state, this is to cover my gas to and from. So if you are receiving a pair of rittens the total would be 50 per pair to deliver them downstate. (The cost is only 40 if you come to my location to pick them up.)

With gas prices out of control I try to divide the gas costs fairly between all interested parties so I don't burden just one person with the cost of gas. This has worked out very well in the past. :>)

I need eight reservations to make the trip down state as my gas for the trip at current prices has escalated to 80 dollars round trip. But that's how much it would cost each individual if they had to drive to my location to pick them up, plus the time for the trip there and back, so this really is a wonderful opportunity for those who live in the southern half of Michigan, to get quality pet rats.

Payment for ratties being transported needs to be prepaid before the delivery date. Most people just use Paypal to make the payment and I can send you an invoice from Paypal making it easier for you to make payment.

Any products or supplies you order can be paid with Paypal also as they allow you to use a charge card. Or products can also be paid for in cash upon scheduled pickup. I can bring these items with me downstate to save on shipping costs, you just need to let me know what you want ahead of time. I can also custom make carrying pouches in your favorite colors. These are a highly recommended purchase and you can read more about them at my store link.

Upon completing arrangements for pickup each person will be scheduled in a time slot one hour a part from each other. This is because I give one on one attention to each and every person, answering questions, showing proper handling and bonding procedures and going over proper care and health topics.

I take this extra time because I want to make sure my fur kids and their new owners will be contented with each other and my little ratlets will continue to thrive in their new environments.

I'm not just doing this to promote rats as pets, I'm doing this to educate the public on proper care and handling of this unique animal too. They are very intelligent creatures and have feelings and emotions much like a two year old human child. They are not like hamsters, gerbils, guinea pigs and rabbits, they are friendly and social, and interact and bond with their owners much like dogs do. They can get EXTREMELY attached to their human friends if given the right environment. I help you learn what that environment is.

Getting your pet rats from me is a great value for your money as you'll receive a nice pedigree certificate and a lifetime of email assistance for your pets. I'm always available to assist with any behavioral or medical issues that you have. I always make time for my customers to assure they get all the help they need for the lifespan of the pets they acquire from me. I do not disappear after the sale. Your happiness and your pets happiness is very important to me. :>()

Please note: As a breeder keeping specific babies to enhance my breeding efforts is important. I do my best to reserve and let adopters have the rats they want after I've made my selections but sometimes the markings are still coming in and it's hard for me to determined on my marked lines which ones are really going to work the best to achieve goals like getting an excellent masked rat or a good example of a Dalmatian. Dalmatian spots keep coming in for weeks.

I reserve the right to offer an exchange if I think a different rat than the one I've selected to keep would enhance my overall goals. I also reserve the right to cancel the adoption if I feel a rats health or temperment are not as I'd like them to be. If you've put down a deposit and this happens your deposit will promptly be refunded. I know how attached people get to their ratties once they've picked them out and named them so I try very hard to assure they get to go to the homes that are excited to adopt them.
